President and founder of Alston Hunt Floyd & Ing, the fourth largest law firm in Hawai`i, with offices on O`ahu, Maui and Hawai`i Island, Alston has been practicing in Hawai’i since 1971, and holds a degree from University of Southern California Law Center. He hails from Los Angeles, but when he first came to Hawaii in 1965, he knew he had found his new home. In 1977, shortly after he started in private law practice and with a focus on counseling clients in real estate and commercial matters, Alston began working with Ed Olson, whom he had known since 1970.
Thus began a lifelong partnership. Through decades of working as a team, Alston deeply understands the Olson Trust’s mission. Described by one client as “three steps ahead of everyone else,” Alston keeps pace with the Trust’s dynamic efforts by maintaining a keen focus on the future and what the next need might be. Named as Hawai`i Lawyer of the Year by Best Lawyers in America® in 2009 and again in 2012, Alston is also a certified civil trial specialist.
He serves as counsel to many non-profit organizations, including the Mental Health Association and Kokua Kalihi Valley. In addition, Alston and his wife own a small farm on Hawai`i Island near Volcano where they grow poha berries.
